  37. About PhoneList v1.0
  38.  
  39. PhoneList came into being because of how the company I worked for maintained
  40. phone lists of the employees both in the building I worked in and other
  41. offices around the country.  This company handed out printed lists of people
  42. and their extension - and each time a person changed offices, or a new 
  43. employee was hired, a new list was printed and distributed (to over 350 
  44. people!).

  46. PhoneList removes all the paper from the loop - and delivers the
  47. latest information on employee extensions to your desktop is a matter of
  48. seconds. It is intended to be run on a file server, so that all information
  49. is available to every employee connected to a LAN.  However, PhoneList runs
  50. on a stand-alone PC as well.

  52. PhoneList is a simple, uncomplicated manager of employee extensions ap-
  53. propriate for companies who fit the scenario above, or business owners who
  54. wish to maintain a database of customers and contacts, or the MIS director
  55. to keep track of vendors, etc.

  124. Pre-Installation:
  125.    Decide who will be entering all the data for PhoneList.  Rights will
  126.    differ for data entry persons.

  128. 1. Copy the files PHNDATA.EXE, PHNVIEW.EXE, and PHONE.MDB to a directory on
  129.    your file server.  Give all users RF rights to this directory and flag
  130.    all files as Shareable.  For data entry persons, allow RCMW rights to the
  131.    PHONE.MDB file and RF to PHNDATA.EXE.  (Remove RF to PHNDATA.EXE for all
  132.    other users to prevent inadvertant changes to PhoneList data.)

  134. 2. For each workstation, copy all DLLs to the WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.  (If 
  135.    you have a shared Windows directory on your LAN, copy the DLLs to the
  136.    shared directory.)

  138. 3. For each workstation, add the line SHARE /L:500 to the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

  140. 4. Add the appropriate programs to Program Manager - PHNDATA.EXE & PHNVIEW.EXE
  141.    to data entry persons, and only PHNVIEW.EXE for all others.

  161. PhoneList v1.0 - Quick Start
  162.  
  163. PhoneList's interface is very self-explanatory. The following is a quick
  164. run through of using PhoneList.

  166. PHNDATA.EXE - Executable to enter all PhoneList information
  167.  
  168. Enter information in the appropriate fields.  Use the Employee menu to add,
  169. modify, or delete employees.  Use the Locations menu to add or delete 
  170. locations.

  172. PHNVIEW.EXE - Executable to browse PhoneList information
  173.  
  174. Use the arrows at the bottom of the screen to move from location to location.
  175. All employees for a location are displayed in the listing at right.
